postheadericon Collection of urine for general analysis

How urine is collected for general analysis and other studies, the nurse must know perfectly. Urine for general analysis is sent to study the functioning of the kidneys and other internal organs.

The analysis itself includes an assessment of the physicochemical characteristics of the studied biological fluid (urine), as well as a microscopic examination of the sediment.

The purpose of collecting urine for research is diagnostic, it consists in obtaining reliable results:

  • Assessment of the physical properties of urine.
  • Determination of the chemical composition of urine.
  • Microscopy of urine sediment.

Equipment for the procedure

  • Direction form, label.
  • 200 ml clean dry container (glass jar, plastic container with lid).
  • Latex gloves.
  • Disinfectant containers.

Sequencing

Preparation

  • We create a trusting and confidential relationship with the patient.
  • We explain to the patient the purpose of the study, we obtain informed consent.

On an outpatient basis:

  • We teach the patient how to properly prepare the vessel for collecting urine (we explain that the jar must be absolutely clean and dry).
  • We explain to the patient the correct technique of the toilet of the external genital organs in the morning on the eve of the study (thorough washing with soap and warm water in the direction from the urethra to the anus, wiping the skin dry in the same direction).
  • We issue a referral for urinalysis to the clinical diagnostic laboratory in the prescribed form.
  • We explain to the patient at what time and to which office the container with urine and the direction should be taken.

In a hospital environment

  • We issue the direction in the prescribed form.
  • In the morning before collecting urine from the patient, wash your hands and put on gloves.
  • We wash the patient.
  • We give the patient a prepared container for collecting urine.

Performing the procedure for collecting urine for a general analysis

Teach the patient how to collect urine:

  • in the morning after the washing procedure, the patient must excrete the first portion of urine into the toilet within 1-2 seconds (at the expense of “one, two”);
  • delay urination;
  • open the prepared jar;
  • collect 150-200 ml of urine in a jar (if there is more urine, complete urination into the toilet).
  • close the bank.
In the hospital, the nurse sticks a label on the jar and places the containers with the collected urine in a container for transporting the biomaterial to the laboratory, removes gloves, immerses them in a disinfectant solution, washes and dries the hands.

During the period of menstruation in women, urine is either not collected, or the vagina is plugged during the procedure for collecting urine.
